In the Gospels, we discover these two men that were all about running their small fishing business: casting and dragging, hauling and sorting, mending and folding, transporting and selling. Everyday was like every other as far as they knew. James and John were good at the routine.
One morning, Jesus showed up to bust them out of their routine, to smash one paradigm and plant another. Jesus invited them into it saying, “Follow me.” Jesus offered them a new direction, a new equipping for a new vocation: fishers of people.
Through God’s Spirit, alive in the Church, we are continually invited in the same way; invited to be freed from our ruts and routines – into a dance with Jesus, a full symphony where every player has a part.
With a posture of love and humility, we believe that investing in the growth of your 5Q is a real game-changer. For those who are caught in patterns, routines and ruts that are a barrier to the work of leading the people of God into everyday mission, 5Q may be as close to a silver bullet as you can get. Jesus bequeathed the five-fold gifts to the Church for the purpose of “serving and building up the body of Christ.” We believe that as we take this journey on together, we will experience breakthrough in our call to “become mature adults — to be fully grown, measured by the standard of the fullness of Christ.”
In the 5Q book, Alan puts it this way:
“To be able to learn something new, whether it is related to God or to other forms of learning, we need to be willing to let go of obsolete ideas and open our eyes and our hearts to being willing to grow, mature, and get back on the road of discipleship and learn again. The learner needs to venture out of fixed paths into the unknown, and not allow their heart and head to be stunted by mere routine — this is especially true of religious routine. In fact, I would suggest that new breakthroughs are only gained by those who break out of the arbitrary boundaries that have been set by mere convention — that’s why they are called breakthroughs.”
We want to provide organizational leaders with a learning bridge from roadblock to breakthrough.
New Coaching Resources Are Coming: March 2018
The 5Q Collective team is getting ready to roll out several exciting, brand new coaching opportunities to help you plant a new 5Q paradigm in the culture you lead and shape. We are aware that transformation does not merely come through new paradigms and mere information. As we follow Jesus, we fully partake in a dynamic process with him.
As you’re engaged with 5Q (the book) we would like to share with you the opportunity to engage further on a transformative journey that will involve deepening your own discipleship, strengthening your leadership, as well developing the capacities of your church or organization.
The goal of our coaching and training is to create a process where theological imagination and innovative practice in discipleship, leadership and mission can be engaged and activated throughout the Body of Christ.
As we roll out our first two processes, training will begin by focusing on developing competencies in 5Q generally and then going on to develop competency in all five capacities or quotients individually. We call these focused streams AQ (apostolic quotient), PQ (prophetic quotient), and EQ (evangelistic quotient), and so on.
The various coaching and training processes provide strategic, practical training for transformative discipleship practice, leadership development and organizational change.
So, here is what is on the way: two tracks to help you engage 5Q individually and corporately.
5Q Coaching Course – Online
This is a 5Q Coaching introductory coaching process. In this process, you and your team will be engaging learning & coaching around 5Q foundations: APEST identity, culture & practice and 5Q awareness & activation.
For this track, you would make a one semester (14 weeks coaching) time commitment with 1 hour a week contact (webinar or discussion forum), some self-led project work on own initiative and a message board for peer learning & discussion.
The one semester coaching gives a 5Q overview from an experienced practitioner within an environment that gives you direct input, discussion with peers and others on the journey and also some work for you to do yourself in application. This provides a full term of impetus and energy around learning and will prepare you well for your local leadership role and lifestyle.
5Q Leadership Cohort – Online
This is our 5Q deep dive training process. In this process, you and your team will be engaging learning, coaching and training around 5Q foundations, leadership, organization and movement (one topic per semester). We will provide resources for studying and learning on personal, leadership and organizational levels. This can be tailored for the Organizational context if one group from an organization goes through together.
In each of the four key topics, the training will be tailored to: increase 5Q awareness and activation, equipin creating 5Q culture and practice setting a framework for multiplying the training across the context of your individual leaders.
This process will run for four semesters (14 months) with a 90 minute bi-weekly webinar contact, access to chat room discussion, some self-led project work (including undertaking a multiplication project in semester four, one face/face on-the-ground immersion and written work for assessment).
We cannot wait to launch these new coaching processes and experience the ways you see your missional momentum grow!
For more information and updates as they occur, please contact us through the form on the Coaching and Training page. We look forward to hearing from you, and more than that, working together to see 5Q help you create new rhythms and paradigms in the churches and organizations you lead.
